We’re building tomorrow’s fleet today
With more than 11,000 employees, HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding division is the largest manufacturing employer in Mississippi and a major contributor to the economic growth of Alabama. For nearly 85 years, we’ve designed, built and maintained amphibious ships, destroyers, and cutters for the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Coast Guard. The largest supplier of U.S. Navy surface combatants, we’re simultaneously building four classes of ships and have pioneered the development and production of technologically advanced, highly capable ships for the surface Navy fleet for decades. Think that’s cool? Keep reading:
The Role
The Ingalls Apprentice Program is a career and educational opportunity unlike any other. The Ingalls Apprentice School provides high quality, comprehensive apprentice programs designed to provide an opportunity to master one of the many crafts of shipbuilding. Since 1952, our programs have produced over 4,000 graduates in support of the operational needs of Ingalls Shipbuilding. Every day, our apprentices push new boundaries of achievement and explore new opportunities in a complex and challenging workplace.
The regular indentured apprentice programs consist of on-the-job training and related work instruction. Following successful completion of the program, the apprentice is promoted to the status of journeyman. The Ingalls Apprentice School programs are recognized as the backbone of a well-trained workforce and prepare for future leadership opportunities.
Building and maintaining amphibious ships, destroyers, and cutters for the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Coast Guard that will defend our country for years to come is not only a rewarding experience but also an excellent opportunity for apprentices to learn about heavy manufacturing in a modernized shipbuilding facility.
