Ergon Refining, Inc., in Vicksburg is currently looking for a QA Laboratory Instrument Specialist. The primary objectives are to test, calibrate, maintain, and repair lab instrumentation and equipment for continuous operation and conformance to established standards, and to assist with maintenance of the lab's Statistical Quality Control (SQC) program. The Instrumentation Specialist will also run specialized instrumentation, such as GC, GC-MS, ICP, and DSC, to analyze samples for refinery support.

Position Qualifications:

• Two (2) year Technical Associates' degree or the equivalent work experience as determined by the Laboratory Manager
• Minimum of ten (10) years of experience with petroleum lab equipment and ASTM methods
• Must have an aptitude for math, technical writing ability, and advanced knowledge of automatic testing equipment
• Ability to work independently is required
• Good communication skills with managers and employees are required
• Must have successfully completed and passed a Functional Job Capacity Evaluation (FCE)

Responsibilities Include the Following:

• Practice good laboratory safety habits and participate in all safety training as required
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment at all times
• Maintain and follow ISO 17025, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001 related standard practices and procedures
• Identify and report deviations from the laboratory's quality management system, SQC program, or from procedures for performing lab activities
• Report to laboratory management on the performance of the laboratory's quality management system and any need for improvement
• Ensure the effectiveness of laboratory activities
• Maintain the Laboratory's equipment service and calibration program
• Schedule and/or perform preventive maintenance service on lab equipment
• Service lab equipment when issues are reported in order to minimize impact on refinery processes. On-call availability on nights and weekends is mandatory
• Use established internal procedures as well as industry standards and manufacturer procedures for the proper calibration and troubleshooting of lab equipment
• Monitor SQC and recognize when instruments or processes are out of statistical control, and identify how to troubleshoot and correct such problems
• Keep records and other documentation of equipment maintenance and calibrations
• Perform radiation leak tests on applicable equipment for Mississippi Department of Health
• Assist with writing AFE's for equipment purchases, and set up equipment upon delivery
• Attend training courses and conferences as needed for professional development
