Provide comprehensive HR support across multiple functional areas including recruitment, employee relations, training coordination, benefits administration, performance management, and compliance. The HR Generalist works closely with managers and employees to support day-to-day HR operations while contributing to process improvements and initiatives that align with Ergon's "Doing Right" culture of Respect, Integrity, Resolve, Humility, and Trust.

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • 2–4 years of HR generalist or related HR experience.
  • Other Job-Specific Skills
  • Working knowledge of HR policies, employment laws, and compliance requirements
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS systems
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Preferred:

    • PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification.
    • Experience in a refinery or heavy industrial environment.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Ensure HR practices comply with federal, state, and local employment laws (e.g., FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO, OSHA standards)
  • Work closely with department administrative assistance, supervisors, and managers to maintain consistency among all facility departments in human resources practices
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records
  • Conduct pre-employment processes including background checks, drug screens, and pre-screening compliance checks
  • Assist with educating newly hired employees on HR policies and internal procedures. Facilitate new employee paperwork and onboarding
  • Assist Corporate Personnel/Payroll and Human Resources as needed
  • Identify opportunities to improve HR workflows, forms, and communications.
  • Assist with HR projects, policy updates, and system implementations.
  • Administer benefits including open enrollment, communicating changes to employees and helping resolve problems
  • Prepare and maintain HR KPI reports (man-hours, overtime, sick time, headcount reports, attrition, FMLA, STD/LTD etc.)
  • Generating regular and ad-hoc headcount, hours worked including vacation, sick-time and overtime reports
  • Advising employees and managers on appropriate HR solutions
  • Maintains employee information up-to-date included but not limited to organization chart, position requirements matrix, job profiles, etc.
  • Provide support and back-up for Refining front desk as needed
  • Manage and maintain a process for continuous improvement in the area of payroll and human resources
  • Process employment status changes and wage rate changes
  • Resolve employee questions regarding benefits or payroll / personnel matters
  • Communicate employee information and unique situations to the appropriate members of management
  • Follows policies and practices as stated in the Employee Handbook and other facility policy and procedure manuals
  • Perform all tasks in accordance with plant safety guidelines and procedures with a heightened sense of awareness to maintain a safe work environment
