Ergon, Inc in Flowood, MS currently has an opening for a Corporate Health and Safety Specialist in its Operational Excellence Department.

As a Corporate Health and Safety Specialist, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing safety programs and initiatives to protect the health and well-being of employees in corporate settings. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams across business units to assess risks, implement safety protocols, and promote a culture of safety within the organization.

Corporate Health and Safety Specialist Job Duties:

Safety Program Development:

  • Develop and implement corporate safety policies, procedures, and guidelines in alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Design and manage safety programs to address specific hazards and risks present in corporate environments.

Risk Assessment and Hazard Identification:

  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and audits of corporate facilities and workspaces.
  • Identify potential safety hazards and ergonomic risks and recommend corrective actions to mitigate them.

Safety Training and Education:

  • Develop and deliver safety training programs tailored to the needs of corporate employees.
  • Provide guidance on safe work practices, emergency procedures, and the use of safety equipment and tools.

Incident Investigation and Reporting:

  • Investigate workplace accidents, injuries, and near-misses to identify root causes and prevent recurrence.
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents and prepare detailed reports for management and regulatory agencies as required.

Compliance and Regulatory Oversight:

  • Stay abreast of relevant safety regulations and standards (OSHA, ANSI, etc.) and ensure compliance across corporate operations.
  • Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to address regulatory requirements and maintain corporate governance.

Safety Culture Promotion:

  • Promote a culture of safety and accountability among corporate employees through awareness campaigns, training sessions, and communication initiatives.
  • Encourage employee participation in safety programs and initiatives to foster a sense of ownership and responsibility.

Emergency Preparedness and Response:

  • Develop and implement emergency response plans for corporate facilities, including evacuation procedures, first aid protocols, and communication strategies.
  • Conduct drills and exercises to assess emergency preparedness and ensure employees are adequately trained to respond to crises.

Safety Program Evaluation and Improvement:

  • Monitor the effectiveness of corporate safety programs through performance metrics, data analysis, and feedback mechanisms.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve safety initiatives based on industry trends, best practices, and organizational needs.

Corporate Health and Safety Specialist Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Emergency Management, Safety Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Previous experience in refinery industry preferred
  • Proven experience in emergency response coordination, preferably within the petrochemical or refining industry.
  • Professional certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial
  • Hygienist (CIH) or equivalent
  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations and standards applicable across a diverse group
  • of business units.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Proficiency in conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety training programs.
  • Ability to maintain a harmonious relationship with facility personnel. Provide a positive role model by performing tasks in line with Ergon's Core Values.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities to achieve process safety goals.
  • Ability to effectively communicate status, progress, and goals to Senior Management.
