Job Summary/Purpose
This position acts as a subject matter expert in a program or system role in a technical discipline among peers within a department. This position works in conjunction with other engineering disciplines as well as craft employees and is responsible for developing design/ construction standards.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
Plan and conduct independent engineering work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. Devises new approaches to solving problem.
Work within a team environment to create and maintain material specifications, material standards, and process in Utility Distribution. Current opening in the area associated with distribution apparatuses, controls, communication, and metering. Future duties may be in other portions of the Design Basis group related to such items as overhead & underground construction, Distributed Energy Resources, distribution transformers, or engineering support.
Persons in these roles are expected to:
- Represent Entergy as a technical expert within Industry
- Represents Entergy Power Delivery in Standards discussions and/or utility practices as the industry evolves
- Work with consultants and equipment manufacturers and interface with departments on technical issues.
- Leads the development of System/ Power Delivery processes and procedures.
- Change agent for achieving Power Delivery objectives.
- Provide guidance and coaching to other departments on engineering matters.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum education required of the position
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering discipline from a four-year accredited institution (typically Electrical, Mechanical, Civil and Chemical, Industrial).
Degrees in engineering technology (typically, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, and Industrial) from a four year accredited institution with PE may be considered.
A strong preference for Electrical from four-year accredited institution.
Minimum experience required of the position
Engineer I: 0-2 years experience in an engineering discipline.
Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position
Ability to work independently without day-to-day oversight, ability to work within a team environment that may be geographically diverse and to lead small projects, critical thinking, and the ability to provide written reports supporting standards and the underlying philosophy. Good interpersonal skills along with strong written and oral communication skills. Good knowledge of Personal Computer operations
and related software. Basic theory of electricity. Ability to interpret construction drawings. Ability to manage multiple activities and changing priorities. Ability to recognize opportunities for process improvement.
Desired:
Knowledge of electrical distribution material.
Knowledge of electrical distribution construction practices.
Demonstrable understanding of the application of NEC, NESC and / or other national codes and standards is a plus.
Any certificates, licenses, etc. required of the position
Must have valid driver's license
PE desired but not required.

EEI Testing:
One way that Entergy has found to identify and assess the abilities and skills needed for certain jobs is through pre-employment testing.
