Entergy’s Power Generation group operates a fleet of more than 30 owned, leased, or operated natural gas, coal, oil hydro, solar and petroleum coke plants, with a total engineering capacity exceeding 20,000 megawatts. Entergy continues to build or acquire megawatts from new hydrogen capable natural gas units, solar, wind and other technologies complement its existing megawatts of nuclear, natural gas, coal, oil, hydroelectric, and solar facilities.
JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:
Serves as the lead person on shift in the operation and maintenance of the systems associated with a fossil fuel fired power generation facility while demonstrating safety awareness, environmental, and regulatory compliance and direction that will continuously improve performance by employees and contractors through the use and strict adherence to procedures and processes. Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) or Champion over assigned applications or processes such as Risk Management Assessments, PCI/Empower, Simulator Training, etc.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for the reliable & safe operation of utility power boilers and turbine/generator equipment including following startup/shutdown procedures and understanding the equipment's normal operating parameters & limits
- Perform operating functions including monitoring operating equipment, operating valves, understanding power plant system, starting & stopping equipment, isolating & restoring equipment for maintenance and monitoring boiler water chemistry
- Adhere to safety standards and practices for the protection of personnel and equipment in accordance with Corporate, Environmental, Plant & OSHA policies & procedures
- Work schedule is a rotating 12-hour shift including holidays and weekends
- Work overtime at times when shift coverage is required due to unexpected circumstances
- Be willing and able to work under unusual as well as normal working conditions pertaining to a power plant environment
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Education:
- High school diploma
- Desired:
- Process Technology/Instrumentation college degree or equivalent work experience
Minimum Experience:
- At least 1 year experience with the principles of operation of steam boilers (drum type/super critical), turbine-generators, motors, pumps, heaters, water chemistry equipment and simple loop controls.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must possess a complete understanding of plant systems, Unit Operating Practices, power production and operation technician proficiency
- Must be Maintenance Operator qualified, having completed all Maintenance Operator multi-skill training and demonstrations
- Control board training and qualification must be completed
- Must be able to climb stairs moving up and down boilers 11 floors (Not standard floors)
- Knowledgeable of unit surveillance testing requirements and unit chemistry operating requirements and corrective actions
- Must be able to function effectively under adverse conditions
- Must possess an understanding of OSHA Work Procedures
- Must be capable of walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, entering/exiting confined spaces, reaching overhead, pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs.
- Excellent communication, organizational and decision-making skills

- Equipment operation experience
Any certificates, licenses, etc. required for the position:
- Successful completion of the EEl POSS/MASS test
