As an Indirect Tax Accountant, you will support multi-state and multi-company indirect tax compliance activities by preparing returns, reconciling tax accounts, supporting audits, and providing tax research and analysis that ensures compliance and operational accuracy.

Responsibilities:

What You Will Do

Prepare month-end indirect tax calculations and journal entries; compile supporting schedules and tie-outs for sales tax, 911 fees, use tax, excise tax, and unclaimed property accounts

• Prepare account reconciliations for all indirect tax liability accounts; identify, document, and track aging reconciling items to resolution

• Perform transactional tax calculations and reviews, including: technical inventory issuance sales and use tax, non-PO invoice use tax, and self-assessed use tax review and corrections

• Prepare return workpapers and data files provided to third-party vendor; assist with variance explanations and responses to agency notices

• Assist with Vertex O/L Series rate and rule updates; test configuration changes in staging environment before production deployment and billing grid updates

• Support exemption processes: collect W-9s, prepare resale certificate packages, maintain customer exemption documentation, and support customer sales tax refund requests

• Prepare franchise fee compliance workpapers; support filings and payments; assist with agency notices and reconciliations

• Gather data needed for property tax filings and support return review packages

• Support unclaimed property compliance tasks: data gathering, documentation preparation, and submission support

• Maintain business license tracking database — calendar renewal deadlines, initiate renewal filings, and track new jurisdiction requirements across operating entities

• Assist with indirect tax audit IDR (Information Document Request) responses — compile and organize transaction samples and documentation packages for sales/use, property tax, and franchise fee audits

• Research routine indirect tax questions and document conclusions; escalate complex items to Manager, Indirect Tax as needed

• Support reporting automation and process improvement initiatives by validating data, testing reports, and updating desktop procedures

• Monitor legislative and regulatory changes affecting indirect tax obligations; communicate relevant updates to the Manager, Indirect Tax and affected business units

• Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications:

What You Will Bring

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration, or

1–3 years of indirect tax or tax accounting experience preferred; general accounting experience with tax exposure considered

• Strong Microsoft Excel and data reconciliation skills; proficiency with pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and Power Query or comparable data manipulation tools; organized and deadline-driven

• Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally

• Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet recurring deadlines, and work collaboratively within a team

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

• Working knowledge of multi-state sales/use tax compliance, including return preparation, account reconciliation, and exemption certificate management

• Vertex O Series or L Series experience is a meaningful differentiator for this role

• Oracle Fusion or comparable ERP experience, including data extraction, report generation, and use tax correction workflows

• Telecom, utility, or communications industry experience — helpful context but not expected at this level

• Property tax, franchise fee, or business license compliance experience a plus

• CPA license or active pursuit of CPA designation
