SENIOR DATA SCIENTIST

Camgian is hiring a Senior Data Scientist to help develop, build, and transform client data into reliable quantitative insights. In keeping with this overarching aim, the senior data scientist will understand client needs, define project requirements and strategy, break down work and assign tasks to junior staff, and monitor progress. The successful candidate will be an analytical problem solver who enjoys diving into data, is excited about investigations and algorithms, can multi-task, and can credibly interface between technical teams and business stakeholders. Your analytical abilities, business understanding, and technical savvy will be used to identify opportunities to solve existing business problems and look around corners for future opportunities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Build models and tools using technical knowledge in statistical modeling, probability and decision theory, machine learning, and other quantitative techniques
Understand the business reality behind large sets of data and develop meaningful analytic solutions
Innovate by adapting to new modeling techniques and procedures
Utilize SQL and code (R, Python etc.) for analyzing data and building statistical models to solve specific client business problems
Improve upon existing methodologies by developing new data sources, testing model enhancements, and fine-tuning model parameters
Collaborate with business unit, software developers and IT to define product requirements and provide analytical support
Communicate verbally and in writing to business customers and leadership team with various levels of technical knowledge, educating them about our systems, as well as sharing insights and recommendations
Stay informed about developments in Data Science and adjacent fields to ensure that outputs are always relevant
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree
Strong background in math and statistics for building statistical models
3+ years of experience with data querying languages (SQL), scripting languages (R, Python), and statistical/mathematical software (e.g., SAS, Stata, MATLAB)
Experience working with SQL, No-SQL, and Time series databases
Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, ggplot
3-5 years’ work experience as a Data Scientist
United States Citizenship
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree or PhD in computer science, statistics, mathematics, or information systems
Strong proficiency in SQL and R
Practical understanding and hands-on experience with regression modeling (linear and logistic)
Multiple years of experience working with large-scale, structured, and unstructured datasets to create/optimize predictive, forecasting, optimization, and/or machine learning models
Direct experience with both supervised learning methods (linear and logistic regression, time-series modeling, generalized linear models, decision trees, random forests, support vector machines, etc.) and unsupervised learning methods (K-means, hierarchical clustering, association rules, principal components).
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively advocate technical solutions to engineering teams and business audiences
Proven ability to convey rigorous technical concepts and considerations to non-experts
Demonstrable track record of dealing well with ambiguity, prioritizing needs, and delivering results in a dynamic environment
Exceptional work ethic, willingness to learn, tenacity not to quit, aptitude to surpass, and strong desire to work in a fast-paced environment, with existing and new product lines, are necessary for success. Collaboration and cross pollination with other teams will be frequent, thus communication, openness, and willingness to share both success and failure is a must.
